ASCA Moscow 2024 brought together young scientists from different countries

Over 70 researchers and over 30 speakers joined the Workshop.

The 5-day event’s program included lectures and hands-on bioinformatics, conference, partner’s exhibition and also parallel wet lab practices: Sample preparation (incl. tissue dissociation, magnetic sorting and in vivo fluorescence imaging), single cell RNA library preparation using human cells and plant tissues, and spatial transcriptomics of human tumors.

Dr. Timur Fatkhudinov, Director of Research Institute of Molecular and Cellular Medicine, Medical Institute, RUDN University:

- Our colleagues from the Tomsk National Research Medical Center, who launched the first workshop on single-cell analysis 5 years ago, today, of course, become leaders in this field in our country, and I’m glad that RUDN University is involved in this activity.

Dr. Evgeny Denisov, ASCA President, Head of Laboratory of Cancer Progression Biology, Cancer Research Institute, Tomsk NMRC; Head of Single Cell Biology Laboratory, Research Institute of Molecular and Cellular Medicine, RUDN University:

- In five years, we managed to gather a community of like-minded scientists in the field of single-cell analysis and bioinformatics, which has finally transformed into an international association that includes more than 270 people from 43 countries.

During the Conference, participants had a unique chance to listen leading scientists from Tomsk NRMC, RUDN University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, MSU Institute for Artificial Intelligence, Research Center of Biotechnology RAS, Sechenov University, University of California, University of Pittsburgh, and other organizations.

Dmitry Tychinin, Analyst, Centre for Strategic Planning of FMBA:

- It was the third time I took part in the ASCA Workshop, this time as a moderator for hands-on bioinformatics. I taught participants to perform methods for cell type annotation and assessing ligand-receptor interactions. Today, sharing knowledge with young specialists is very important, since there are no gold standards in our field.

The history of the ASCA workshops begins in 2019. The workshop mission was – and remains to this day – to promote single cell analysis in biology and medicine by integrating wet lab practices, hands-on bioinformatics, and sharing experience in a roundtable discussion. The workshop rules: free participation (no registration fee), competitive selection of the participants, and opportunity to analyze samples provided by the participants.

  • Organizers: Tomsk NRMC, RUDN University, ASCA, Blokhin NMRC of Oncology, and Petrovsky National Research Centre of Surgery.

  • Partners: Helicon, Sesana, SeekGene, Algimed, RWD Life Science, MGI, and SkyGen.

  • The workshop is supported by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation (Agreement on subsidies No. 075-15-2021-1060 of September 28, 2021)
