60 researchers from different countries joined ASCA Workshop 2024 in Tomsk, Russia
Through the 5-day event, participants from Russia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and India obtained valuable skills in single-cell analysis and bioinformatics by taking part in wet and dry lab practices, master-classes and hackathon.
Leading scientists from Russia, China, Germany and Austria shared experience with participants at the round table "Experience in Single-Cell Analysis".
- Single cell analysis is a key to understanding cellular processes and mechanisms of diseases. Single cell techniques allow analyzing molecular features of tissues and organs such as gene mutations, expression, methylation, etc. with the single cell resolution. In the future, the development of this priority field of biomedicine would improve the efficiency of personalized therapy for various diseases and reduce their medical and social burden.
ASCA President, Dr. Evgeny Denisov: "The special feature of the ASCA Workshop 2024 was the Bioinformatics hackathon. Four teams, each of 5 people, focused on 4 biological problems in the field of single cell seq, spatial transcriptomics, multiomics and machine learning, then presenting talks on the round table. It was incredible experience and a great opportunity to deal with the different problems of modern biomedicine".
The winning teams proposed new algorithms that significantly reduce the time of bioinformatic analysis and interpretation of the data obtained.
The history of the ASCA workshops begins in 2019. The workshop mission was – and remains to this day – to promote single cell analysis in biology and medicine by integrating wet lab practices, hands-on bioinformatics, and sharing experience in a roundtable discussion. The workshop rules: free participation (no registration fee), competitive selection of the participants, and opportunity to analyze samples provided by the participants.
